Guiding Philosophy
What has always been close to our hearts… In everything we do, we always ask a lot of questions.
In fact, we have found that we always get stuck on one question.
It’s never so much about the what or how, but always primarily about the why… The question of “why” is very difficult to answer because you have to deal with yourself, your wishes, needs, strengths and weaknesses.
But without the answer to the why, something is missing in our lives.
Motives give meaning to our actions.
In the following timeline, we would like to give you a little understanding of our little why.
The Journey
Through apple turnovers to a baking mat!
Whenever the smell of freshly baked apple turnovers rises to our noses, it reminds us of home.
Our mother baked the best apple turnovers in the world; and that was not due to special ingredients or the recipe.
It was because of the love she put into it.
The love for their children and the love of baking that unites people all over the world.
This love of baking that also drives us.
With passion and care, we develop our products by combining tradition and modern materials.
Since 2015, we have been keeping the promises of sustainability and high quality.
But how did this come about?
Back to the apple turnovers, of which we still can’t get enough today.
Accordingly, a lot of baking paper was used and thus a lot of waste was produced.
We had the idea that there had to be another way.
So after many searches and experiments, our first product came about, a reusable baking mat, tested and confirmed by the best apple pocket baker in the world.
However, it didn’t stop at the baking mat; at the latest at the next birthday when half of the cake stuck to the old pan, we had to use the developed non-stick property of the baking mat here as well.
It was time for a cake pan, which was followed by a bread pan, muffin tins and, of course, cookie cutters at Christmas.
With the cookie cutters, we have to admit, that was more of a gag!
We had thought about what else we could do with the silicone, so we simply encased high-quality stainless steel cookie cutters so that they would be more handy and safer for everyone.
More products were added from year to year, and an idea, the baking mat, resulted in a whole product range.
With the right grips, you want to make baking a sense of achievement for you.
Because baking not only has a social element and makes you happy, it is also fun!

The past
It used to be different
Even though our team is still very young, we like to remember old times and what we were told about the past.
In the past, you could use a parchment paper insert (baking paper) several times; you baked one or the other bread on it and then later again the cake or the biscuits.
But what about today’s baking paper?
It burns faster, is no longer tear-resistant and quickly sticks to the baked goods.
If baking paper tasted like edible paper now, then none of us would have a problem with it.
But unfortunately, it is now the case that you have to dispose of it after every baking process.
We therefore generally did not have a clear conscience when using this disposable utensile, which was far from environmental awareness and resource conservation.
The Problem
The problem with disposable baking utensils
Our biggest problem with baking paper and muffin cups has always been that they are not just made of paper.
Both are not really recyclable, because they are made of paper on the one hand, and wax and / or Teflon layers on the other.
This makes them so-called multi-component products.
In contrast, our Backefix silicone molds are one-component products and are made of pure platinum silicone.
The Solution
The first market-ready product
So we looked around the market for inspiration.
We sat down with friends and bright minds and after a development period of four months, we produced the first market-ready version of the Backefix silicone baking mat in March 2016.
We owe everything else to our loyal customers and fans, as many practical tests, reports and customer opinions followed, which helped us to improve our products and develop new ones.
Our philosophy matured and became more concrete.
A strong trend towards sustainability and a healthy lifestyle shaped not only our team, but also our products.
Increasingly, we believed more and more that there was another way and declared war on all disposable utensils.
Our goal is to expand the range so that disposable products can be completely banned from the kitchen.
Our projects
Sustainable and social projects Thanks to our strong community, we have already been able to support one or the other social institution with product sponsorship (including some kindergartens and youth centres).
Thank you also to all the bloggers and influencers who work with us.
You have not shied away from carrying the good word to the outside world.
It is only because of you that so many new opportunities and projects have arisen.
We hope that together we can support many more campaigns and institutions.
So if you have an idea, don’t hesitate to contact us. Baking is something social for us, so it is a matter of course for us to bring people together over a few delicious muffins. Thank you for your time and interest. With this in mind, your Backefix Team PS.: If you take even one thing with you, then please do this: Baking together makes you happy!
